The large black beetle has brownish long legs and very long antennae that are about the length of the body itself. It also has short spines on the thorax.

It is one of the largest beetles, often reaching up to three and a half inches in length at maturity. An adult one is normally black or brown in colour. It also has wings and can fly, albeit awkwardly at times.
