The Real Derobrachus Hovorei Palo Verde Longhorn Beetle is a striking and rare insect native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. As one of the largest beetles in North America, it can reach up to 54–66 mm (2–4 inches) in length. Adults are typically black or brown with long antennae and spines on the thorax. They possess wings and are capable of flight, albeit awkwardly. Mature beetles emerge during the summer to mate and are attracted to lights at night. While not harmful to humans, they can bite in self-defense.Â
